Aug 15 to 17, 1969 - The Woodstock Music and Arts Fair opens in upstate New York. It was actually held in Bethel, NY, in Sullivan County, not Woodstock (Ulster County). It was called the largest and most peaceful gathering of young people ever assembled. Woodstock was held on Max Yasger's farm and attracted hundreds of thousands of people who communed in heavy rain, lots of mud, and bright sunshine, with lots of music by the biggest acts in rock music.

The only museum in New York State exclusively dedicated to preserving the maritime heritage of the Hudson River. Stroll through the old boat shop, with its displays of ice boats, small boats, ship models, engines and tugboat information. Explore three hundred years of history as you tour the seven stone houses and one church in the historic village of New Paltz, a National Historic Landmark District. Established in 1677, New Paltz was home to twelve Huguenot refugee families from France whose descendants lived in their ancestral homes well into the 20th century. Some of the houses remain virtually unchanged from their 18th century appearance, while others were adapted for "modern" use in the 1830's, 1890's and 1940's, offering visitors the opportunity to trace the development of the culture and society of the United States from its most formative years right up through the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Also on the site are reconstruction of the 1717 French Church, library and picnic facilities. Guided tours leave from the Visitors Center in the DuBois Fort, which also houses the museum shop. Kripplebush Schoolhouse Museum

Furnished and recently renovated one-room schoolhouse, established 1857. Locust Lawn/Terwilliger House

Built in 1814, this handsome Federal period mansion was built by Josiah Hasbrouck and was home to successive generations of the Hasbrouck Family until the end of the 19th century. Hasbrouck was a lieutenant in the Revolutionary War and served as a U.S. Congressman under Jefferson and Monroe. The house is furnished with original family collections, including furniture, textiles and family portraits by the renowned folk artist Ammi Phillips. The mansion house is part of a farm complex, which includes several barns and other support structures, as well as the Terwilliger House, a fine Dutch-style stone house built in 1738 by Evert Terwilliger and enlarged by his son in 1764. Nearby is the Terwilliger Family cemetery. The site is under construction, with an anticipated reopening date of August 2005. Call the Huguenot Historical Society for further information.

Perrine's Bridge

Covered bridge built circa 1835, by Benjamin West, Perrine's Bridge is the last surviving example of the Burr Arch Truss design in NYS. This lovely bridge spans the Wallkill River between Rifton and Tillson. Open to pedestrian traffic only. Picnic area on grounds on west bank of the Wallkill River (across the bridge). Historical information is available at the Klyne-Esopus Museum in Ulster Park.
Rondout Lighthouse

Historic 1913 lighthouse. The Rondout Lighthouse operates as a satellite museum by the Hudson River Maritime Museum. The lighthouse contains period furnishings and exhibits documenting the history of the Rondout Lighthouse keepers and their families. Museum tour guides on site. Access only by tour boat which departs from the museum's docks. Tour Times: May-June, Saturday-Sunday, 12:30PM, 1:30PM, 2:30PM and 3:30PM. July-October 15, daily, 12:30PM, 1:30PM and 2:30PM.
Saugerties Historical Society/Kiersted House

Built in 1727, the Kiersted House, home to the Saugerties Historical Society, is architecturally significant as an exceptional example of 18th century building practices. It was the home of the first doctor of Saugerties, Dr. Christopher Kiersted. Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy

The lighthouse proper contains a museum displaying artifacts of the lighthouse and of the commercial heyday of the Saugerties waterfront. The stone farmhouse, which was home to the Bevier Family from 1715 until 1938, began in the 17th century as a Dutch one-room dwelling.
